SW China Landslide kills seven, injures seven

The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, in Maoling village of Wenchuan County, leaving seven dead, seven injured and one missing. The landslide also caused more than 5 million yuan (about 660,000 US dollars) of economic losses, with 700-meter-long road, 1,000-meter-long water pipeline, 1,000-meter-long electricity line, and 150-square-meter shed destroyed. Preliminary investigations showed that the accident was a naturally induced mountain landslide, with the 2,900-meter-high mountain steep slope rock rupturing, leading to the landslide. Read more
World powers aim to stave off economic peril
WASHINGTON - Finance officials from the world's top economic powers endorsed a plan Friday aimed at preventing another financial crisis like the credit and mortgage debacles that erupted in the United States and quickly sent tremors around the globe.
